Mine disaster in Turkey.
A mine explosion in Soma, West Turkey, has killed 245 people in the last 24 hours. Almost 450 people have been rescued and 120 people are still missing.
The explosion was almost 1.2 miles underground, most deaths are due to carbon monoxide poisoning.
Friends and relatives have gathered around the entrance of the mine, waiting for news. Prime Minister Erdogan has arrived at the site as well.
Several protests broke out throughout Turkey about the safety of mine workers, including big protests in Istanbul and Ankara. The political opposition uses this event as a good reason to point out the flaws in Erdogan's government.
Three days of national mourning have been announced, flags on government buildings in Turkey, as well as embassy's will be half mast until Friday.
