The Lost Hero
By: Rick Riordan Britton White
Many of you know the Percy Jackson series, whether it be from the book series or the movie series, I grantee you know him. Percy Jackson is the son of Poseidon (Greek God of the sea) and that series, book or movie, is centered around him defeating the evil Titan Cronus. Here is a major spoiler, Percy Jackson does defeat him. (I wouldn't tell you how, but he does.) At the end of the last book (The Last Olympian) comes a prophecy that says that 7 demigods will save the world from someone bigger than that crap sack Cronus.
The Lost Hero is a new series that involves the 7 demigods mentioned in The Last Olympian, and the first book's main characters that introduce three of the seven in the prophecy. There are Jason (the son of Zeus), Piper (the daughter of Aphrodite), and Leo (the son of Hephaestus). It is a great book and you don't necessarily have to read all five books that are in the Percy Jackson series to get it. However, when you do it makes the book fun, you tend to know more of a character that was just cameo than the main characters do. A bit ridiculous, but somehow it is fun to go 'HA! I know more than you sucka!'
It isn't just the additional information that will make you love the book, it has a great story line to it any ways. There are great, intense scenes, funny parts, and the characters know how to kick some major, awesome butt! Your beloved Percy Jackson isn't in this book (he's in the next book and is one of the main characters), but you'll find yourself taking a liking to the new characters.
Sum Up of the beginning
The beginning starts off with a new character, Jason, who doesn't remember who he even is. He wakes up on a bus that is going on a field trip to the Grand Canyon and meets Piper (who tells Jason that she is his girlfriend) and Leo (who is apparent his best friend). During the field trip they are attacked by monsters, and one of your favorite characters comes to the rescue, Annabeth Chase. Once they finish off all the monsters Annabeth takes them to Camp Half-Blood; there they find out that one of camp's leaders is missing Percy Jackson, and that Annabeth is trying to find him. As well as the fact that all the memories that Piper and Leo have of Jason are fake, and that they haven't met the dude since that day.
So Annabeth leaves after saving them, and Piper, Leo, and Jason try to make themselves roomy at Camp Half-Blood. However Leo can control fire, which isn't a good thing by demigod standards, so fitting isn't an easy thing (don't forget that he lost who he thought his best friend was). Not to mention when you start seeing things, like your crazy babysitter you had as a child, a girl that sees the future and can tell prophecies goes insane on you and knocks you unconscious, and that you find out that you're in a prophecy of saying 'beware the earth' pretty much. Getting use to things there isn't a walk in the park.
There is one plus: that the psycho who knocked Piper out has said a prophecy and that means Jason, Piper, and Leo get to go on quest together. Which is good for Piper, because maybe she can get her man back. It's a relief to Leo, because being away from all those campers makes it very unlike for them to discover his secret flame throwing powers. And it might help Jason figure who he is and why he has no memories left, and if Leo's ex-babysitter had anything to do with it.
I will say this for the millionth time; it is a great book. If you love Rick Riordan's past book you will love this book. If you love longer books than this will be good for you. Or if you love shorter books, then you this isn't really your book. I'm just kidding, you might find that you adore this book, even if you don't really read. Take your time on it, go fast on it, love it. I don't care what you do, but give it try.
Prophecy in the book:
Seven half-bloods shall answer the call.
To storm or fire, the world must fall.
An oath to keep with a final breath,
And foes bear arms to the Doors of Death.
